Link 2. CFL Lights – 10 years ago buying CFL’s (compact fluorescent lamp) hurt as you opened your wallet to buy them. Today on average, a CFL bulb uses 75% less electricity than an incandescent light bulb. This reduction in energy consumption translates to reduced greenhouse gas emissions from electricity production. CFLs also last up to 10 times longer than an incandescent light bulb, up to 10,000 hours, which means they don’t enter the waste stream as often. Switching all of your incandescent bulbs to CFLs will result in a 75% to 80% savings in your lighting energy costs. Changing just one 60 watt incandescent bulb to a 13 watt CFL will save $47 in energy costs over the average 7 year life of the bulb.
