CFLs as a school fundraiser « Change a light bulb and change the world

CFLs as a school fundraiser « Change a light bulb and change the world: "The Continental Divide Electric Cooperative, NM is once again planning the school fund raising event of selling compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFLs). The utility is interested in hearing from any schools interested in participating. Last year students from 13 service-area schools participated in the project, collectively earning about $6,300 for their schools. Schools earn $2 for every $3.50 bulb sold, which includes $1 from the consumer and $1 from the co-op. Householders realize long-term savings on their electric bills because the lower wattage bulbs save about $30 in savings throughout the life of the light bulb, which is usually seven to nine years, depending on use. The utility also benefits through the decrease in energy consumption, which eventually lowers the co-op’s demand costs for power."
