Michael Polowin • Make it easy to be green
Michael Polowin • Make it easy to be green: " compact fluorescent lights. Hydro gives them away, and pushes them as the answer to our energy problems. The province announced that they will be mandatory in 2012. But no-one knows how to recycle them or dispose of them safely, and if you break one, there is a potential concern about mercury contamination. Mercury is a known neurotoxin, with potentially severe health effects. The jury is out on energy consumption resulting from CFL production. I don't think they're the answer."
