MacBook: the greenest notebook in the world
When Apple launched its redesigned notebook line-up last month, the benefits of its all-aluminum enclosure and LED backlight were touted as improving the user experience. But as Steve Jobs mentioned in his environmental update, these and other features also have an important, positive impact on our environment. Apple is now spreading the word about these benefits via a new ad campaign.
Describing the MacBook line as 'The world's greenest family of notebooks,' the new ad brags about the new aluminum enclosure, which is easy to recycle and reduces the number of parts needed to assemble the machine. Many toxic chemicals traditionally associated with electronics have also been removed, including brominated flame retardants and PVC. The new LED-backlit display eliminates the mercury found in traditional CFL backlighting, and the glossy glass cover is easily recycled, and is arsenic-free. The new notebooks are also designed to be highly energy efficient, with Apple saying the notebooks can run on just a quarter of the energy of a single lightbulb—though I'm not exactly sure how Apple arrives at that figure, since"
