Waste Management of San Diego Receives Environmental Responsibility Award

 Waste Management of San Diego today announced it received an Environmental Responsibility Award at the Industrial Environmental Association's Annual Environmental Summit held at the Catamaran Resort Hotel in October.At the award ceremony, San Diego Mayor Jerry Sanders and Supervisor Greg Cox, Chairman of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, watched as Waste Management was given the award in recognition of Environmental Leadership in San Diego County's Universal Waste Campaign.WM received the award for its participation in San Diego County's 2008 Earth Day Universal Waste Campaign to help promote the proper recycling of fluorescent tubes and compact fluorescent light bulbs (CFL's). WM provided participating companies from throughout San Diego County with WM LampTracker Fluorescent Lamp Recycling Systems. WM also participated in a public education event and press conference to help raise awareness of the importance of recycling universal waste such as fluorescent tubes and CFL's.Receiving the award on behalf of the employees of Waste Management were Keith Ropchock, from WM’s Green Squad, Les Hart, Manager of Community and Municipal Relations and Charissa McAfee, Manager of Customer Experience, who leads the WM San Diego/Orange County Sustainability Committee."We were thrilled to have the opportunity to support the County of San Diego's Universal Waste Campaign and help promote the importance of recycling fluorescent lamps," said McAfee. "Waste Management's LampTracker program makes it safe and convenient for businesses and home owners to properly dispose of fluorescent bulbs and is just one more way we Think Green."The Industrial Environmental Association's (IEA) Annual Environmental Summit, entitled "Navigating in an Ever-Greening World" is California's only Statewide Environmental Summit and is hosted by IEA, along with the California Manufacturers and Technology Association and the Chemical Industry Council of California.
