Science and Technology, Lifes Changing » Blog Archive » Soon We Will Be Obliged To Use Energy Saving Light Bulbs?: "Soon We Will Be Obliged To Use Energy Saving Light Bulbs?
Undedr: Energy

I bought one and found that the light from it was far too weak and kind of cold in appearance and took it out and binned it. Someone told me that there is a better one available, but I am not so sure and wonder if anyone has had my experience? These damn light bulbs would make you blind and are useless in my opinion, yet we will have no choice in Ireland but to use them as the Green Party insist on it. So does anyone know anything about these bulbs?

My eyes are weak and sensitive.
If I was forced to use those darned lights,
I’m thinking I’d start a revolt..
That said,
They are making improvements to them all the time.
Maybe soon they’ll come out with one that isn’t so irritable.

Some bulbs are better than others. Check the “color temperature” of the bulbs, this is a measure of color. They are getting better and cost effective LED bulbs will soon take over from CFLs. If you look into the future we have NO choice but to cut energy consumption. It’s not just global warming but global economics and global security!

I’ve also heard this. I find it kind of absurd considering the state our economy is in. I can buy a pack of six light bulbs for $1.20, and bulbs blow like mad around my house approximately 3 a week because I can’t afford to have my house rewired by an electrician, if these bulbs blow at the rate regular bulbs do it will cost me $300 or more a month to keep my house lit considering they cost anywhere from $15 to $25 apiece. They are also more harmful to the environment than standard light bulbs. Can anyone say lobbiest? ;-(

In Australia we have been forced to use these globes, as you say they are very weak, and a real downside is they are filled with Mercury, so careful disposal is a must, when they find out how to do it."
